Abai Schulze, a Washington D.C. based designer and entrepreneur, represents the diaspora's growing number of African women entrepreneurs. Schulze went from an orphanage in Ethiopia to being adopted by an American family, to becoming the gusty entrepreneur she is today. At the age of 24, Schulze returned to her native country, Ethiopia, to launch a luxury handbag business, ZAAF. She employs dozens of Ethiopians, particularly women.
